About Beta V Corporation
and Hitchhiker's Guides...

Mentoring, training, and technical content for professionals world wide
The Company

Beta V Corporation has been actively supporting the Microsoft developer community since our first books were published in 1992. Since the company was founded, its principal William (Bill) Vaughn has written 11 books as well as countless magazine articles and training sessions on Microsoft Technology. For the most part Bill focuses on data access and especially the seam between the development languages and SQL Server but his previous book discussed SQL Server Reporting Services.

After 14 years at Microsoft, where Bill worked with Microsoft University, Visual Basic documentation, Visual Studio Marketing as well as with the Internal Technical Education teams, Bill retired to persue full-time mentoring, speaking and writing. Over the 30+ years he’s been working in the information technology field he's grown to be recognized as a world-class authority on data access technologies.

Mentoring

If your company needs help deciding whether or not .NET technology is the right approach, give us a call. If you need insights on how to convert existing applications to .NET, we can schedule a mentoring session to get your management, architects, marketing and development teams up to speed in no time. Mentoring sessions are a cost-effective way to learn if your staff, application reqirements, funding, systems and customers are ready for .NET. We discuss what application architectures make sense given the business and technical consraints facing your company. We can also help find suitable consultants or permanent staff to help implement the project or simply provide custom on-site training to bring your management and developers up to speed quickly. Ideally, mentoring sessions are held on-site but we also provide low-cost phone or internet sessions that can help understand your basic requirements before an on-site visit is planned.

Our Latest Book

Bill's latest work, written with Peter Blackburn, is the Hitchhiker’s Guide to Visual Studio and SQL Server (7th Edition). It’s a “start-from scratch” work that’s designed to help developers at all levels of experience—but especially those new to the latest versions of Visual Studio and SQL Server. By providing a core foundational reference, the book is designed to act as a learning reference and a pathway to understanding more complex architectures and techniques. That is, while the book includes over 780 pages of material on most subject relating to Visual Studio and how it's used to build sucessful applications with SQL Server, the book also provides low-cost access to a number of EBooks that supplement its content. This way readers owning the Hitchhiker’s Guide can keep up to date with the latest changes released by Microsoft and other key vendors. We’ve all seen how often Microsoft updates its development tools and SQL Server. So far we’ve already seen a major service pack for SQL Server and Visual Studio and more are in the wings. The authors that try to keep your skills current by providing updated content are faced with fairly long research, writing, testing and publication schedule. By providing updated content via EBooks, we’re certain that it’s possible to deliver fresh content more quickly.

Custom Training

Beta V also provides data access and other focused onsite training that can help your entire team understand the issues, mysteries and wonders of .NET technology. See our current course catalog for a selection of courses and further information.
